WOOD NYPMHS

Bulgarian percussionist and marimba virtuoso Tatiana Koleva brings two worlds together in Wood Nymphs: the rhythms of flamenco and the Balkans. With a wooden installation as a living sound body, she enters into dialogue with flamenco dancer Claudia Karapanou. Marimba and footwork challenge each other in the “twelve counts,” the rhythmic cycle that defines many flamenco and Balkan styles, driven by tupans (folk drums) and colored by the kaval (Bulgarian shepherd’s flute).

Featuring new original compositions, including a specially reworked Soleá by Florian Magnus Maier, originally written for Koleva.
