Open Rehearsal

On Thursday afternoon, March 12, the first artists of the Amsterdam Marimba Weekend are arriving, and Orgelpark will open its doors during the rehearsals of the Youth Percussion Pool. Under the guidance of prominent coaches, they will prepare for the spectacular program “Synergy of Wood – Premieres & Celebration,” which will take place on Saturday evening at the Orgelpark.

Specially for this Exclusive Edition of the AMW, artistic director Tatiana Koleva will expand the YPP platform into a Performance Pool and bring together an ensemble consisting of young talented percussionists, vocalists, and organists from Dutch conservatories.
During this open rehearsal, works by Steve Reich and Trevor Grahl will be performed, and visitors will gain a unique insight into the creative process and witness from close by how the ensemble develops and works on its contemporary repertoire.

Artist talks & workshop

In between cities & stages the mallet virtuosos of BaRcoDe project will make a special stop at the AMW.
Prior their evening show, the musicians of the band are holding a meet & greet workshop session,
featuring Patricia Brennan and Simon Moullier.
In an informal setting they will talk about the creative process behind the scene, blending personalities, ideas and experience. This is the moment and place to ask questions, be curious and find out new perspectives of music making.

On Saturday, March 14, the Amsterdam Marimba Weekend will host an afternoon program with artist talks and workshops, preceding ‘Synergy of Wood – Premieres & Celebration’ concert evening, to delve deeper into the collaboration between performers, composers, and programmers.

In an informal, interactive setting, you will meet Trevor Grahl – composer, professor at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague, winner of the 2025 Matthijs Vermeulen Prize; Fedor Teunisse – artistic director of Het Muziek, an ensemble for new music; Tatiana Koleva – marimba/percussion, artistic director of AMW & YPP, professor at the Prince Claus Conservatory of Groningen, Rachel Xi Zhang – marimba, professor at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, and Kaat Vanhaverbeke – accordionist, composer, winner of the 2024 AMW Composition Award.

During this interactive afternoon session, you’ll learn more about the creative process and the development of a musical and artistic idea and get in the mood for the impressive concert program that will take place later that evening at the Orgelpark.
